Firstly good luck in your quest for the $100 a month I hope you achieve it (if you haven’t already).

You hit the nail on the head with your way of thinking, however I also discovered that dragging people direct from search engines was a good way to quickly boost your adsense earnings (ad affiliate earnings). I know many people believe that 1 site per niche but to me every time you make a new site you are effectivley starting again! When I was starting new pages or sites while educating myself I put both adsense and an affiliate product on the page to monitor which one worked best to that page, people develope a style and that will attract different types of people from the keywords you use!

Indeed, making money online with AdSense will be a constant learning process. Nice of you to share your thoughts to us. Certainly newbies will also learn a thing or two from your experiences. I have written “out of my comfort zone” as well and sometimes the articles just do not appeal to me. Sometimes it’s also irritating that I have to research on material that I am not fond about. But you are right, we have to adhere to the preferences of the majority. So though it may not be interesting to us, we have to do it. Good luck on your AdSense journey. I am sure you will go a long way and achieve your $100 a month target.

Your Lucky! I didn’t really get noticed until about 5 months. Adsense is a combination of skill and a little luck doesn’t hurt either. Sounds like you gave up to soon.

I used to write for some of those online newspapers when I thought that was the best way to spend my time getting noticed instead of making money.

Now, I don’t even bother unless it is to get a backlink.

My life as a writer sure has changed since I started using the Internet.

What is weird is I write more about stuff I don’t like then when I used to write about what I did like.

Re your epiphany about social/celeb stuff like Michael Jackson – yes, eventually everyone realises that though writing and reading about celebs is fun, no one actually makes any money out of it, because people read this stuff to pass the time.

I’m pretty sure that’s why online newspapers are struggling so badly – they concentrate heavily on the celeb stuff and people read in droves, but no one clicks any of the ads…
